A2 In our Sanskrit Class we had a piece from Mahabharat describing the sea devouring Dwaraka City. A3 Once while he was touring Kumbakonam along with his wife, Shri Venkatanatha and his family were invited to attend a function. Unfortunately, the hosts did not treat him well and wanted him to earn his food by running a chore. So they asked him to make some sandalwood paste for all the invitees. Shri Venkatanatha per his habit was chanting stotras and mantras while preparing sandalwood for Tilaka. When the guests applied this paste, it induced a burning sensation all over their bodies. Surprised by this, the hosts sought a clarification from Venkatanatha. He replied that the burning sensation was due to the Agni Suktam (hymn for the worship as defined in the Esoteric Vedas) that he was chanting while preparing sandalwood and thus eternal power of Vedic Mantras revealed itself. • September 8, 2014 காஞ்சி மடத்தில் ஒருநாள் மதியம் பெரியவர் சாப்பிட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அவரை யாரோ குறுகுறுவென பார்ப்பது போலிருக்க நிமிர்ந்தார். ஜன்னலைப் பிடித்தவாறே குட்டிக் குரங்கு ஒன்று நின்று இருந்தது. அதற்கு வாழைப்பழம் தருமாறு பணித்தார். ஆனால், வாங்க மறுத்துவிட்டது. அதற்கு கொஞ்சம் சாதம் கொடுக்க ஏற்பாடு செய்தார். கண் மூடி திறப்பதற்குள் வேகமாக சாப்பிட்டு விட்டு, மரத்தில் ஏறி மறைந்தது. அதன்பிறகு, இதுவே தினமும் வாடிக்கையாகி விட்டது. அதற்கு “கோவிந்தா’ என்று பெயரிட்டு அழைத்தார் பெரியவர். ஒருநாள் அந்த குரங்கு நீண்டநேரமாகியும் சாப்பிட வரவில்லை. சாப்பிட மனமின்றி, பெரியவர் காத்திருந்தார். அன்று, மடம் அருகில் இருந்த நாராயண அய்யர் வீட்டிற்குள் குரங்கு நுழைந்திருக்கிறது. அதைக் கவனிக்காத அய்யர், கதவைப் பூட்டி விட்டு மடத்திற்கு வந்து விட்டார். தான் புதிதாக வாங்கிய நிலத்தின் பத்திரத்தை, பெரியவரிடம் கொடுத்து ஆசி பெறுவது அவரின் நோக்கம். பெரியவரிடம் பத்திரத்தைக் கொடுப்பதற்காக பைக்குள் கையை விட்டார் நாராயண அய்யர். ஆனால், பத்திரத்தைக் காணவில்லை. அவர் திகைத்தார். “”நாராயண அய்யரே! என்ன தேடறீர்…. நான் குரங்கைத் தேடறேன். நீர் பத்திரத்தைத் தேடறீரோ…. என்ற பெரியவர்,””போங்கோ… போங்கோ…. ஆத்துல போய் தேடிப் பாருங்கோ…. நான் தேடுறது மட்டுமில்லாமல், நீங்க தேடுறதும் கெடைக்கும்….” என்றார். விறுவிறு என வீட்டுக்கு வந்த அய்யர் கதவைத் திறக்க, சரலேன குரங்கு ஒரு பையுடன் ஓடுவதைக் கண்டார். அந்த பையைப் பார்த்ததும் தான், அதில் பத்திரத்தை வைத்தது நினைவிற்கு வந்தது. குரங்கைத் துரத்தியபடி அவரும் பின்தொடர்ந்தார். தெருவிலுள்ள எல்லாரும் வேடிக்கை பார்த்தனர். ஓடிய குரங்கு மடத்திற்குள் நுழைந்தது. பெரியவர் அதனிடம் அன்புடன், “”கோவிந்தா ….. உனக்கு பசிக்கலையா… எங்கே போயிட்ட….” என்று கேட்க, அய்யரும் “”ஐயோ குரங்கு …பத்திரம்…. பத்திரம்….” என பதட்டத்துடன் ஓடி வந்தார். பெரியவர் அவரிடம்,””பயப்படாதீங்கோ…. குரங்கும் பத்திரமா இருக்கு! அதன் கையில் பத்திரமும் பத்திரமாத் தான் இருக்கு” என்று சொல்ல அங்கே ஒரே சிரிப்பு வெடி… அதன் பின், தன் முன் குரங்கு போட்ட பத்திரத்தை எடுத்த பெரியவர், அய்யரிடம் வழங்கி ஆசியளித்தார்.

• September 7, 2014 ஒரு இனிய காலைப்பொழுது. மைலாபூரில் அடுக்கு வீடு ஒன்றில் ஒரு புறாகூண்டு. சங்கரி மாமி வேர்க்க விருவிருக்க சமையல் அறையிலிருந்து கையில் ஒரு தட்டோடு தரிசனம் தருகிறாள். அது வழக்கமான ஒரு 2BHK வீடு. பத்து வருஷ வயசு. மேலே வர்ணப்பூச்சு தோலுரிந்து தொங்கியது. பகலில் 40W ட்யூப் விளக்கு ஒன்றினால் தான் தேவையான வெளிச்சம். வீட்டின் ஒரே ஒரு வெளிச்சம் வரும் வழி வாசல் கதவு. எதிரே 3 அடி தூரத்தில் அதை எதிர்த்து அடுத்த எதிர்வீட்டு வாசல். கோபால் ராவ் எப்போதும் அந்த வாசலுக்குள்ளே மூன்று அடி தூரத்தில் ஒரு பிளாஸ்டிக் நாற்காலியில் பல் தேய்த்து விட்டு காலையிலிருந்து இரவு தூங்கும் வரை சங்கரி மாமி வீட்டு நடவடிக்கைகளை கவனிக்கும் வாட்ச்மன். கோபால் ராவ் பார்வையை தடுக்க கதவு சாத்தினால் நோ காற்று நோ வெளிச்சம். சங்கரிமாமியின் கணவர் சாமிநாதயார் 40 வருஷ அனுபவ இங்கிலீஷ் வாத்தியார். தமிழ் பாதி இங்கிலீஷ் பாதி தான் எப்போதும் பேசுவார். சாது. கோபால் ராவ் உலக வர்த்தமான விஷயங்களை தெரிந்து கொல்வதற்கு சாமிநாதய்யரை அங்கிருந்தே கேட்பார். பத்திரிகை எதற்கு வாங்கி படிக்கவேண்டும். அதற்கு தான் அவர் இருக்கிறாரே. சாமிநாதய்யர் சொன்னதையே திருப்பி திருப்பி பள்ளி மாணவர்களுக்கு உபதேசிப்பது போல் ஏன் உலகில் கச்சா எண்ணெய் விலை ஏறுகிறது இறங்குகிறது என்று நடித்தே காண்பிப்பார். கோபால்ராவ் பாதி புரிந்து கொள்வார். அடிக்கடி அவர் விரும்பிக் கேட்கும் கேள்வி ”இன்று உங்காத்தில் என்ன சமையல் ?” சங்கரி மாமி அதனால் மூன்று பேருக்கு சமையல் செய்ய வேண்டியிருந்தது. கோபால் ராவ் தனது பேரன் பேரன் மனைவியோடு அந்த வீட்டில் வாழ்ந்து வந்ததால் காலையிலேயே அவர்கள் வெளியே போய்விடுவதால் தனிக்கட்டை. சில நேரங்கள் தெலுங்கில் கண்டசால பாட்டு படிப்பார். • September 7, 2014 வாசல் கதவைத் திறந்த ஜனனி திடுக்கிட்டுப் போனாள். மீனா சித்தி! இவள் தாயின் தங்கை. எங்கோ மகனுடன் துபாயில் வாழ்ந்து வந்தவள். தொடர்பு விட்டுப் போய் பல நாட்கள் ஆகி விட்டன. இன்று இவள் வீட்டு வாசலில் வந்து நிற்கிறாள்! ‘‘சித்தியா, வா வா சித்தி!’’ அன்புடன் ஜனனி அவளை வரவேற்றாள்.‘‘எப்படி இருக்கே ஜானு? உன் கல்யாணத்துக்கு வர முடியல்லை அக்கா பத்திரிகை அனுப்பி லெட்டர் போட்டிருந்தாள்…’’ ‘‘பரவாயில்லை சித்தி இப்பவாவது வந்தியே.’’ ‘‘நான் எத்தனை எத்தனையோ நல்ல நல்ல சந்தர்ப்பங்களை இழந்திருக்கேன். அதே போல அக்கா இறந்த போதும் கூட எனக்கு தாமதமாகத்தான் செய்தி தெரிந்தது. அதை விடு. அது பழைய கதை. ’’ ‘‘என்ன சாப்படறே சித்தி?’’ ‘‘ஒண்ணும் வேண்டாம்மா. இப்பத்தான் கல்யாண வீட்டிலே சாப்பிட்டேன்.’’ ‘‘கல்யாண வீடா?’’ ‘‘ஆமாம் என் மருமகள் வீட்டுக் கல்யாணம். என்னை துபாயிலே தனியா விட முடியாதுன்னு என்னையும் கூட்டிண்டு வந்துட்டான், என் மகன்.’’ ‘‘ரொம்ப சந்தோஷம் சித்தி இப்பவாவது உன்னைப் பார்க்க முடிஞ்சுதே.’’ ‘‘உன் கல்யாணத்துக்குத் தான் வர முடியல்லை… இந்தா இதை வாங்கிக்கோ,’’ என்று சொல்லி ஒரு கிஃப்ட் பார்சலைத் தந்தாள் சித்தி. ‘‘என்ன சித்தி இது?’’ ‘‘வேற என்ன, துபாயிலே கிடைக்கற பேரீச்சம்பழ சாக்லெட், அப்புறம் ஒரு சில்க் புடவை… என்னால முடிஞ்சது…’’ ‘‘தேங்க்யூ சித்தி.’’ சித்தி தயங்கித் தயங்கிப் பேசினாள். ‘‘எனக்கு ஒரு உபகாரம் செய்யணும் ஜானு…’’ ‘‘சொல்லு சித்தி.’’ ‘‘இந்தா இதை வாங்கிக்கோ,’’ என்றவள் காசிப் பட்டால் சுற்றப்பட்ட ஒரு மூடிய ஸ்வாமி மண்டபத்தைத் தந்தாள். ‘‘என்ன சித்தி இது?’’ ‘‘இதை எடுத்துண்டு வரதுக்குள்ளே நான் பட்ட பாடு… பாலா அம்பாள். நான் பூஜை செய்யும் தெய்வம், என் தாய்…’’‘‘சித்தி…!’’ ஜனனி அதிர்ந்தாள். ‘‘ஆமாம்மா. தினமும் நான் பூஜை செய்யும் என் தாய். என்னால் முடிஞ்ச பால், பழம், திராட்சை, டேட்ஸ்… இப்படி நைவேத்தியம் செய்வேன், ஒருநாள்கூட அவளை நான் பட்டினி போட்டதில்லை. ஆனா, என் மருமகளுக்கு இதெல்லாம் பிடிக்காது. என் பிள்ளையோ இதிலே எல்லாம் தலையிட மாட்டான். இன்னும் ஒரு வாரம் இந்த ஊருலேதான் இருப்போம். கல்யாண சத்திரத்திலோ, வீட்டிலோ இந்தப் பூஜைக்கு இடம் எதிர்பார்க்க முடியுமா? அதனால, ஒரு வாரம், ஒரே ஒரு வாரம் அம்பாளை உன் வீட்டிலே வைச்சுக்கோ. உன்னால முடிஞ்ச பூஜை செய். உன் வீட்டைச் சுத்தி இருக்கற செடியிலேர்ந்து நாலு பூக்களைப் பறிச்சுப் போடு. பால் நைவேத்தியம் பண்ணு. பெரிசா பூஜை புனஸ்காரம்னு எதுவும் தேவையில்லை. அன்போடு நாம் செய்யறதை அவ ஏத்துப்பாள். அவ அகிலாண்ட கோடி பிரமாண்ட நாயகி. ‘அல்லலை நீக்கி வல்லமை காட்டுவாள், அம்புலி காட்டி அமுதினை ஊட்டுவாள்’. என் அஞ்ஞானம், நான் அவளை என்னோடு எடுத்துண்டு வந்தேன். ஒரு வாரம் அம்பாள் உன் வீட்டிலே இருக்கட்டும். ஊருக்குக் கிளம்பறதுக்கு முன்னாடி நானே வந்து வாங்கிக்கறேன்.’’ சித்தி பேசப் பேச ஜனனிக்கு அழுகை வந்தது. பாவம் சித்தி எத்தனை கொடுமைகளைச் சகித்திருக்கிறாள்… தன் கணவனிடம் அடிபட்டு மிதிபட்டு… கடைசியில் கணவனையும் இழந்து மகனிடம் அடைக்கலம் தேடி… இவள் தாய் தன் தங்கை பற்றி நிறையச் சொல்லி இருக்கிறாள். ‘‘கவலைப்படாதே சித்தி இந்த அம்பாள், என் வீடு தேடி வந்த தாய். என்னால முடிந்த பூஜை பண்றேன். ஆகமமா பூஜை பண்ணத் தெரியாது, ஆனா, அன்பா பூஜை பண்ணுவேன். மந்திரம் சரியா தெரியாது, ஆனா, சங்கீதம் தெரியும் நாதோபாசனைகூட பூஜைதான். தியாகப் பிரும்மம், சியாமா சாஸ்திரிகள், தீக்ஷிதர் போன்ற வாக்கேயக்காரர்கள் பாடின கீர்த்தனைகளைப் பாடுவேன்…’’ சித்தி ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீர் வடித்தாள். ‘‘எனக்கென்ன மனக்கவலை, என் தாய்க்கன்றோ தினம் தினம் என் கவலை’’ என்று மனம் உருகியது. சித்தி விடை பெற்றுச் சென்றவுடன் சமையல் அறையின் ஷெல்ஃபில் கோலம் போட்டாள். குத்து விளக்கு ஏற்றி வைத்தாள். மனமுருகப் பாடினாள். ‘‘மாதா பராசக்தி வையமெல்லாம் நீ நிறைந்தாய்… மனம் நிறைவாக இருந்தது.’’ அன்று அலுவலகத்திலிருந்து வந்த அவள் கணவன் சோர்வுடன் இருந்தான். ஆபீஸில் ஏதோ பிரச்னையாம். இரவு முழுவதும் தூங்காமல் அவன் கவலைப்பட்டதில் காய்ச்சல் வந்து விட்டது. டாக்டர், மருந்து, மாத்திரை, ப்ளட் டெஸ்ட், ஸ்கேன் என்று ஆஸ்பத்திரிக்கும் வீட்டுக்குமாக அலைந்து கொண்டிருந்தாள். அதே சமயம், வீடு தேடி வந்த அம்பாள் பூஜையையும் விடவில்லை. ‘‘தேவி நீ வீடு தேடி வந்த நேரம் நல்ல நேரம் என்று நினைத்தேனே ஏனிப்படி சோதிக்கிறாய்?’’ என்று மனத்துள் அழுதபடி பூஜைக் கடமையைத் தொடர்ந்து செய்து கொண்டிருந்தாள். ஒரு வாரம் ஆகி விட்டது. சித்தி வந்து அம்பாளை வாங்கிக் கொண்டு போய் விடுவாள். தன்னால் முழுமையாகப் பூஜையில் ஈடுபட முடியவில்லையே என்ற வருத்தம் ஜனனிக்கு இருந்தது. சித்தி வரவில்லை. சித்தி கொடுத்த போன் நம்பருக்குப் போன் செய்தாள். ‘‘ஹலோ மீனாம்பாளா?’’ ‘‘அ… அ… ஆமாம். அவ நம்பர்தான். ஆனா அவ போயிட்டாளே,” என்று வந்த பதில் ஜனனியைத் திடுக்கிட வைத்தது. தன்னிடம் சொல்லிக் கொள்ளாமல் சித்தி சென்று விட்டாளா என்ன? ‘‘துபாய் போயிட்டாங்களா?’’ ‘‘நீங்க யாரு? மீனாம்மா இறந்தே போயிட்டாங்களே!” உடலே ஆடியது ஜனனிக்கு. ‘‘என்ன சொல்றீங்க?’’ ‘‘ஆமாம்மா கல்யாணச் சாவு. நல்ல வேளை பிள்ளை பக்கத்திலேயே இருந்ததாலே எல்லா கர்மாக்களையும் பண்ணிட்டான். அவனும் ஊர் திரும்பிட்டான். எங்கோ துபாயிலே இருந்தவளுக்கு இந்த ஊர் மண்ணுலே விதி போட்டிருக்கு…’’ ஜனனி குழம்பினாள். தன்னிடம் வந்து தங்குவதற்காக அம்பாள் செய்த லீலையா இது? இது சரியாக வருமா? அம்பாள் வந்த வேளை… அம்பாள் வந்ததிலே இருந்து வீட்டிலே ஏக டென்ஷன், கணவருக்குக் காய்ச்சல், மருத்துவ மனை, சிகிச்சை… வேண்டாம் இந்த அம்பாள் வேண்டாம்… தன் முடிவு சரியா? தப்பா? என்பது பற்றி யாரிடம் கேட்பது? இந்த உலகம் பழி சொல்லுமே தவிர வழி சொல்லாது. அவள் தனிமையில் யோசித்து தனக்குள் அழுது புரண்டு புலம்பித் தவித்து கடைசியில் ஏதாவது ஒரு கோயிலில் அம்பாளை வைத்துவிடலாம் என்ற முடிவுக்கு வந்தாள். அன்று, கணவனுக்கு உடல் நிலை ஓரளவுக்கு சரியாகி அலுவலகம் சென்று விட்டான். இவள் அம்பாளுக்கு விசேஷ பூஜை செய்தாள். சர்க்கரைப் பொங்கல் செய்தாள். ஃபிரிட்ஜில் வைத்திருந்த மல்லிகைப் பூச்சரத்தைப் போட்டாள். கண்ணீர் மல்க பிரார்த்தனை செய்தாள். ‘‘ஜனனி நின்னுவினா திக்கெவரம்மா’’ என்று வேண்டிக் கொண்டாள். பிறகு அந்தத் விக்ரகத்தை ஒரு பட்டுத் துணியால் கட்டினாள். தன் கைப்பையில் வைத்துக் கொண்டாள். இன்னொரு பையில் பழங்கள், சர்க்கரைப் பொங்கல் எல்லாம் எடுத்துக் கொண்டாள். இது ஒரு வழியனுப்பு விழா. ஊருக்கு அப்பால் சற்றே தள்ளி இருக்கும் அந்த அக்கிரஹாரத்தின் அந்த சிறிய கோயிலை அணுகினாள். இதுதான் சரியான இடம் யாருக்கும் தெரியாது. அர்ச்சகர் பார்த்தால் புரிந்து கொள்வார் அம்பாளுக்கு ஆராதனைக்கு ஒரு குறைவும் இருக்காது. இவள் கோயிலை அணுகியபோது கோயில் பூட்டிக் கிடந்தது. அதற்குள் நடை சாத்தி விட்டார்களா என்ன? மணி ஒன்பது தானே ஆகிறது? வாசலில் இருந்த அந்தப் பொட்டிக் கடையும் பூட்டி இருந்தது. ஏன் என்னவாயிற்று? சுற்றிலும் யாருமில்லை. சற்றுத் தொலைவில் மரத்தடி நிழலில் ஒரு கிழவி அமர்ந்திருந்தாள். ‘‘ஏம்மா கோயில் எப்பத் திறக்கும்?’’ என்று அவளிடம் கேட்டாள். கிழவி அலுத்துக் கொண்டாள். “அதை ஏன் கேக்கறீங்க தாயி! இந்தத் தெருவுலே யாரோ இறந்துட்டாங்களாம். போனவரை எடுத்தப்புறம்தான் கோயிலை சுத்தப்படுத்தி நடை திறந்து பூஜை செஞ்சு… எம்புட்டு நேரமாகுமோ! ரெண்டு நாளா பட்டினி தாயி. கோயில் திறந்திருந்தா பிரசாதம்னு ஏதாவது அய்யிரு தருவாரு. என் பையன் சோறு போடாம என்னை வீட்டை விட்டுத் துரத்தறப்போ எல்லாம் இந்த ஆத்தா தான் எனக்குச் சோறு போடுவா… இவளை நம்பி அம்மாந் தொலைவு நடந்து வந்தேன்… ஹும், இப்படி அடைச்சுக் கிடக்கறக் கதவைப் பாத்து எம்புட்டு நேரம் காத்திருக்கணுமோ? எல்லாம் என் தலைவிதி, நான் வாங்கிட்டு வந்த வரம்… இல்லேனா பாசமா இருந்த மகளைப் பறிகொடுத்துட்டு இப்படி ஒரு வேளை சோத்துக்கு அலைவேனா?’’ திடீரென்று இவளுள் ஒரு அடைபட்ட கதவு திறந்த மாதிரி தோன்றியது. கிழவி புலம்பிக் கொண்டிருந்தாள். ‘‘ஆனா என் ஆத்தா என்னைக் கை விட மாட்டா…’’ ஜனனி சட்டென்று தன் பையைத் திறந்தாள். ‘‘இந்தாம்மா இதுலே சக்கரைப் பொங்கல், பழம் எல்லாம் இருக்கு எடுத்துக்கோ.’’ அந்தக் கிழவி மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அந்தப் பையை வாங்கிக் கொண்டாள். ஆர்வத்துடன் பொட்டலம் பிரித்தாள். ‘‘நீங்க நல்லா இருக்கணும் தாயி. உங்க புள்ளை குட்டிங்க நல்லா இருக்கணும். என் ஆத்தா இதோ இந்தக் கோயிலுக்குள்ள இருக்கறவளும் நீங்களும் ஒண்ணுதான் தாயி. என் பசியைப் போக்கின பராசக்தி.’’ கிழவி சர்க்கரைப் பொங்கல் வாயுடன் வாழ்த்தினாள். இவளுக்கு மெய் சிலிர்த்தது. போதும், இது போதும். இந்த வாழ்த்து போதும். தன்னை எந்தத் தீமையும் அணுகாது. ஒரு ஏழையின் பசி தீர்ப்பதும் ஒரு பூஜைதான். காசியில் ஆதி சங்கரருக்கு ஒரு புலையன் ஞானோபதேசம் செய்யவில்லையா? புத்தனுக்கு போதி மரத்தடியில் ஞானம் கிடைக்க வில்லையா? இவளைப் பொறுத்தவரை காசி, போதி மரம் எல்லாம் இந்தக் கிழவிதான். தன் வினைப் பயனைத்தான் அனுபவிக்கிறோம் என்ற ஞானம் கிடைக்கப் பெற்ற தருணம், இது கருணையின் தருணம். அந்த அம்பாள் இவள் பூஜையை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டு விட்டாள். தன்னை ஏற்றுக் கொண்ட தாயை இவளும் ஏற்க வேண்டாமா? இவள் எந்தவிதச் சலனமும் இன்றி வீடு திரும்பிய போது கையில் ப்ரமோஷன் ஆர்டருடன் இவள் கணவன் காத்திருந்தான்! ‘‘எங்கே போயிட்டே?’’ என்று உற்சாகமாகக் கேட்டான். ‘‘இல்லை, இதோ வந்துட்டேனே,’’ என்று இவளும் உற்சாகமாக பதில் சொன்னாள். மல்லிகை மணத்தின் வாசனையுடன் இவள் அம்பாளுடன் வீட்டில் அடி எடுத்து வைக்கிறாள். மனம் பாடுகிறது.

• September 6, 2014 Rajaraja Narendra was ruling the Vengi country with capital of Rajamahendri. He had a son by name Sarangadhara. The king had a second wife Chitrangi and he was very much affectionate towards her. He had a bitter enemy, his step mother’s son by name Vijayaditya. One day Chitrangi, invited her step son Sarangadhara for feast. But as Sarangadhara was leaving for hunting he ignored the invitation. His step mother was very angry towards him and it was brought to the notice of Vijayaditya by the intelligence agency. Vijayaditya made bad propaganda of this accusing of an affair between Sarangadhara and his step mother with the sinister motive of creating conflict in the house of Rajaraja Narendra. Without proper inquiry, Rajaraja Narendra ordered the chopping off the hands and legs of innocent Sarangadhara. It was mandatory to obey king’s orders to and so the punishment was meted out to the prince in the mountain forest. Sarangadhara was lying in a pool of blood screaming in pain drawing the attention of Meghanadha a devotee of Siva, who immediately rushed to Sarangadhara and did what ever he could to alleviate the pain and advised Sarangadhara to pray to Lord Shiva and get his blessings. Lord Siva impressed by Sarangadhara’s prayer gave his lost legs and hands and made him a beautiful person.,

Every month, girls between the ages of 12 and 18 are missing school for 5 days every month during their menstrual cycle because there are no decent toilet facilities in the school. >> >> “And then I thought about the importance of IT in solving everyday issues. All the eToilets are connected over a GPRS network.The web interface at our control centre keeps track of the performance of the eToilets and collects data regarding usage, downtime, usage charges collected, etc. This provides accountability of this public infrastructure. The respective municipalities can check the usage pattern in real time and this is a very innovative concept which we have implemented in all eToilets,” informs Bincy. >> >> Funded mostly by MP or MLA funds and local bodies like panchayats, the basic model of the toilet costs Rs.2 lakhs while the advanced version which is made from stainless steel costs Rs.4-5 lakhs. After installation, the operation costs are met by the small usage charge and income from the advertisement area on the interiors, keeping the model sustainable. >> >> The challenges >> >> “It was difficult for us to make people understand the importance of an eToilet. They are so used to the idea of a mop and a cleaning lady, that they found it difficult to trust that this idea could actually work,” Bincy says. >> >> Another challenge is to find the appropriate site. The toilet needs to be easily accessible but also not very close to crowded areas at the same time. The eToilets have solar power options, options to use reduced amount of water and a sensor-enabled system to conserve water and electricity usage. The programme focuses on the “growth phase” of an idea and helps the organization to implement the idea in such a way that it leaves a larger impact. >> >> “We were facing a challenge in scaling up and getting a hold in the private market. MIF gave us interesting ideas and the support to do so,” Bincy says. >> >> MIF, in collaboration with various B-schools, gets students to work in various social sector projects. They mobilisedthe students of XLRI Jamshedpur to prepare documentation for the sanitation project and brain-storm on how it could be approved. >> >> The most important part played by MIF was to provide value engineering and to help Eram come up with better versions of these eToilets. MIF’s intervention in Eram’s case has helped them to not only market the technology but also develop the product as per the needs of the users. >> >> In addition to this, their major contribution was in re-evaluating the targets – while Eram hoped to install 400 eToilets before MIF intervention, they reworked this target to install 18,200 eToiletsin the next two years! >> >> The impact >> >> The Eram team has so far managed to construct 500 such toilets in 10 states of India, including 150 eToilets in various schools.They have managed to set up over 200 sewage treatment plants and have been recognized with over 30 awards globally. >> >> “The toilets in schools are ‘girl-friendly’ and offer facilities like napkin incinerators and vending machines. Two field trials with California Institute of Technology and Duke University are already underway in Ahmedabad and Chennai. >> >> To make the technology more accessible and approachable, Eram wants to launch a low cost version of these toilets which would cost Rs. 1 lakh. • September 6, 2014 யார் உசத்தி ? அன்றென்னவோ கொஞ்ச நேரம் நாராயணன் ஆதிசேஷன் மேல் பள்ளிகொள்ளவில்லை. கையில் சங்கமோ சக்ரமோ எடுத்துகொண்டும் செல்ல வில்லை. கருடனுக்கும் ஆதிசேஷனுக்கும் ‘ரெஸ்ட்’ நடைமுறையில் என்ன வழக்கம்? எஜமான் தலை மறைவில் எப்போதும் சிப்பந்திகளுக்கு கொண்டாட்டம் தானே. மேற்கண்ட இந்த நால்வருக்குள்ளும் ஒரு சம்வாதமோ பட்டிமன்றமோ இல்லாவிட்டாலும் கொஞ்சம் அதிக பேச்சு நடந்தது என்று வைத்துக்கொள்வது உத்தமம். இது நடைபெறும் என்று தெரிந்து தானோ, அல்லது நடக்க வேண்டும் என்று கருதி தானோ நாராயணன் அங்கில்லை. “நீ எப்போதும் பெருமிதத்துடன் இருப்பது, எங்களை ஒரு மாதிரி பார்ப்பது கொஞ்சம் அதிகம் தான். எனக்கு ரொம்ப நாளா மனசிலே இது பற்றி வருத்தம் தான்”” என்றான் ஆதிசேஷன் கருடனை பார்த்து. “பாம்பும் பருந்தும் ஜன்ம வைரிகள் என்று மக்கள் தான் கருதுவார்கள் நீயும் அப்படித்தானோ? நான் என்று பெருமிதத்துடனும் கர்வத்துடனும் உன்னிடம் பழகினேன்??. கண்ணதாசன் பாட்டை கேட்டு ” இருக்கும் இடத்தில் இருந்து கொண்டால் எல்லாம் சௌக்கியமே ” டயலாக் எல்லாம் நமக்குள் வேண்டாம்” வேற்றுமையை மனசில் வளர்க்காதே” என்றான் கருடன். “நீ சமாதானம் சொல்வதால் உண்மை மறைந்துவிடுமா?. என்னைப் பார். நான் இன்றேல்,நாராயணனுக்கு படுக்கை கிடையாது. நான் பெருமையா பீற்றிக்கொள்கிறேன்??”” என்று சொல்லாமல் சொல்லி பெருமையை பீற்றினான் ஆதிசேஷன். “ஒரே இடத்தில் படுத்து கொண்டே இத்தனை பேச்சு பேசுகிறாயே, நான் நாராயணனை நினைத்த இடமெல்லாம் நொடியில் தூக்கிச் செல்கிறேனே, உன்னிலும் நானே உயர்ந்தவன் என்றா கருதுகிறேன்”” என்று இடித்தான் கருடன் பேச்சு வளர்ந்தது. ரெண்டு பேர் மோதினால் மற்றவர்களுக்கு கொண்டாட்டம் என்பது நமக்கு மட்டுமா சொந்தம். அங்கும் சிரிப்பொலி கேட்டது. இருவரும் திரும்பி பார்க்க, சக்ரம் குறுக்கிட்டது, “நாராயணனை படுக்கும்போதும் பிரயாணத்திலும் சுமக்கும் நீங்கள் யார் பெரியவர் என்று ஏன் வறட்டு வேதாந்தம் பேசுகிறிர்கள்?? . என்னைப் பாருங்கள். நான் நாராயணனை சுமக்க வில்லை. அவன் தான் என்னை வலக்கரத்தில் சுமக்கிறான். என் சக்தி அவனுக்கு பெருமையை அளிக்கிறது. எங்கு சென்றாலும் வெற்றிகரமாய் எதிரிகளை வதம் செய்து நாராயணனின் கரத்திற்கு திரும்பும் நான் ஏதாவது என்னை பற்றி டம்பம் அடித்து கொள்கிறேனா? புரிந்துகொண்டு உங்கள் வேலையை அமைதியாக செய்யுங்கள்”” என்று அமர்த்தலாக சக்ரம் சொல்லியது. மற்றவரை கர்வத்தோடு ஒரு முறை பார்த்தது. ஆதிசேஷனும் கருடனும் சுதர்சன சக்கரத்தின் பேச்சை ஏற்பவர்களா? அவர்கள் இருவருக்கும் ”இந்த பேச்சில் கர்வம் தான் உள்ளது. எனவே இத்தனை நேரம் பேசாமல் இருக்கும் சங்கு கிட்டே ஞாயம் கேட்போம் ” என சங்கின் பக்கம் திரும்பின. அமைதியாக இத்தனையும் கவனித்த சங்கு பேசாமல் தலையை மட்டும் ஆட்டியது “பேசமாட்டேன்” என்றது. “நீ உன் அபிப்ராயம் சொல்லியே ஆகவேண்டும்” என் மூவரும் கேட்க அமைதி யாக சங்கு சொல்லியது” “நம் நால்வருக்கும் நாராயணனால் தான் பெருமை. என் வாயால் நான் எந்த தவறான வார்த்தையும் பேச முடியாது. ஏனெனில் என் மீது தான் ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணன் திருவாய் மலர்ந்தருளி சப்தம் வெளிப்படுகிறது. அவன் காற்றே என் ஜீவ நாதம் எனக்கென ஒரு செயலுமில்லை. ஏன் உங்களையும் சேர்த்து தான், உலகில் அவனின்று ஓர் அணுவும் அசையாது”. உங்களின் தன்மையும் நாராயணின் கருணையால் உங்களிடம் சேரும் அபரிமித சக்தியும் உணர்ந்து உள்ளம் அமைதியுற்று என் கடன் பணி செய்து கிடப்பதே என்று இருங்கள்”. இதெல்லாம் கவனித்துகொண்டிருந்த நாராயணன் ஒன்று மறியாதவனாய் திரும்பினான்.
